Over two hundred people demonstrated peacefully in solidarity with the city of Kobanê yesterday in Barcelona. Kobanê is a Kurdish city in Syria being sieged by islamic jihadists.
The protests actions against the attacks of IS gangs at Kobanê Canton of West Kurdistan are going on all over Europe and Catalonia showed she is with the Kurdish nation too. The crowd often chanted slogans in solidarity with Kobanê both in Catalan and Kurdish along the march. It was organised by KurdisCat, Catalan Solidarity Kurdistan Committee (Desteya Katalan ji bo Piştgiriya Kurdistanê) is formed by a group of Catalan people in support of cultural identity, human rights and the right of self determination of the Kurdish people. It has been founded in 2013 by Catalan people to campaign for peace and justice for Kurdistan. The Committee relies on volunteers to perform many tasks, such as running campaigns and managing, as well as widespread, information in the Catalan language over the conlict.
The rally was supported by three trade unions (CCOO, I-CSC and COS) as well as three parlamentarian parties (ERC, ICV-EUiA and CUP). Help Catalonia but, before, Help Kobanê.
